Hyderabad: The state govt has relaxed restrictions on new auto-rickshaw permits and announced that 40,000 new electric, LPG, and CNG vehicles will be permitted within Outer Ring Road (ORR) limits. According to transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar, this includes 20,000 electric, 10,000 LPG, and 10,000 CNG auto-rickshaws.Until now, there have been restrictions on granting new auto permits within the GHMC limits. However, the govt has now issued a GO allowing new permits, keeping in view both the growing demand for transport and the need to protect the environment, the minister said.He stated that chief minister A Revanth Reddy had taken the decision to permit new auto-rickshaws, which would benefit around 65,000 families.He added that with the city expanding and new residential layouts coming up, ensuring adequate transport facilities has become a priority. Ponnam Prabhakar said permission would also be granted for 25,000 petrol and diesel auto-rickshaws to retrofit their engines with electric, CNG, and LPG.
