The Chicago Sky’s early-season struggles continued on Saturday night, with the team falling 79-52 to the Caitlin Clark-less Indiana Fever.
After back-to-back wins to end the month of May, this now sends Chicago back down to 2-5 on the season, third last in the WNBA standings.
While Chicago was dealt its fifth loss on the year, former Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon took to Instagram to repost a motivational quote from Billionaire Hustle (@billionaire_hustle): “Keep your goals quiet. Not everyone watching is clapping,” alongside an image of NBA legend Kobe Bryant.
Weatherspoon previously coached the Sky during Angel Reese’s standout rookie campaign in 2024.
After retiring as a player in 2004, Weatherspoon honed her coaching chops at Louisiana Tech and as an NBA assistant with the New Orleans Pelicans (2020-2023) before the Chicago Sky hired her in October 2023 as head coach.
In her lone WNBA season at the helm (2024), she guided a rebuilding Sky squad to a 13-27 record, finishing sixth in the Eastern Conference and missing the playoffs.
Despite the disappointing season, Reese emerged as a bright spot.
Selected seventh overall by the Sky, Reese immediately showcased her tenacity, averaging 14.5 points and 13.2 rebounds in June of her rookie year and claiming Rookie of the Month honors.
She went on to finish the year averaging 13.6 points and a league-best 13.1 rebounds across 34 games, earning her a spot on the WNBA All-Star Game roster and All-Rookie Team.
Entering her second year, Reese has continued her run as the league’s premier rebounder, leading the league in rebounds per game (12.3), though scoring has dipped to 9.1 points per outing.
