In a deeply unsettling trend, rising hostility toward Indian communities in the United States is becoming increasingly visible.
A recent viral video shows elementary school children harassing their Indian coding teacher—mocking the food, the music, and the culture. Even after complaints were made to the authorities, the bullying continued.

This is not just about a few offensive chants. It signals a dangerous shift in how India and Indians are being perceived in some parts of Western society.
What’s most alarming is how complex geopolitical issues are being reduced into simplified, often biased narratives and pushed onto impressionable young minds. Children taught to resent a nation today may grow into adults carrying those prejudices, which can translate into real-world discrimination, exclusion, or even violence.

While measures like banning apps such as TikTok may have been steps to safeguard national interests, India is clearly losing the narrative battle in the West. If this continues unchallenged, the Indian diaspora could face a future defined less by opportunity and more by suspicion and targeted hostility.
Now is the time to speak up. To counter ignorance with understanding. To replace hate with honest dialogue. And to ensure that Indians abroad are not turned into scapegoats in an increasingly polarized world.
