Six students from Andhra Pradesh among top 100 in NEET UG

Visakhapatnam: Six students from Andhra Pradesh have secured ranks in the top 100 in NEET UG 2025, the results of which were released on Saturday. Darbha Karthik Ram Kireeti achieved an impressive all India rank (AIR) of 19. The other high achievers include Kodavati Mohith Sri Ram (AIR 56), Desina Surya Charan (59), Podilapu Avinash (64), Yerra Sameer Kumar (70), and Tummuri Siva Manideep (92).Interestingly, the top three performers, Kireeti, Mohith, and Charan, also found places in the top 10 ranks of the Andhra Pradesh EAPCET 2025 in the agriculture stream, the results of which were released about a week ago.A total of 59,219 candidates registered for NEET 2025 in Andhra Pradesh, of whom 57,934 appeared for the exam and 36,776 qualified. This represents a decline of over 7,000 students from 2024, when 66,522 had applied. The qualifying percentage also fell to 63.5% in 2025, compared to 67.5% the previous year. Insiders in the coaching industry attribute this to both the increased uptake of CUET for allied courses and the perception that the controversy surrounding the 2024 paper has made NEET appear ‘unpredictable.Speaking to TOI, Darbha Karthik Ram Kireeti, who topped Andhra Pradesh in NEET with AIR 19 and secured 8th rank in the AP EAPCET, said that he aspires to specialise in cardiac or skull-base surgery. His father, Dr DS Arun Kumar, is a noted ENT surgeon in Rajahmundry, while his mother, Sri Latha, is a homemaker.A native of Chagallu in West Godavari district, Kodavati Mohith Sri Ram, who achieved 56th rank in NEET (second topper among AP candidates) and 9th rank in AP EAPCET, said that proper planning helped him attain the rank. His parents, Satyanarayana (a farmer) and Naveena, said that Mohith will be the first doctor in their family. “We are happy with his performance and want to see him study at AIIMS Delhi,” they said.Surya Charan, who ranked 59th in NEET (third topper among AP candidates in NEET) and 10th in AP EAPCET, said that he wants to become a neurosurgeon. Hailing from a farming family, Charan took long-term coaching after Intermediate, as he could not attend the NEET exam last year because he had not turned 17 (the minimum age to be eligible for NEET). His parents, Prasad and Bulli Rani, natives of Bendapudi in Kakinada district, were elated with the result and said that Charan put in immense hard work during his exam preparation. The medical counselling committee will conduct counselling for the 15% all India quota seats for NEET, accessible at mcc.nic.in, while the respective state authorities will handle counselling for the 85% state quota seats. Dr NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada, will release the state merit list in the coming days for counselling of the 85% state quota seats in govt and private colleges in Andhra Pradesh.
