Rana Daggubati and Venkatesh have come together for the first time for Rana Naidu Web Series. Their first collaboration got huge traction during the season 1 but Venkatesh’s Naga Naidu character and his abusive ways, cuss words just did not sit well with audiences. Now, the makers came up with Season 2, tonning down on adult jokes and sexual content. Let’s see how this season fairs.

Plot:

Rana Naidu (Rana Daggubati)’s son gets kindapped and he uses all his contacts to find him. Rana is being cornered to be put in cage by everyone and he finds great help from Vikram Oberoi (Rajat Kapoor). But Vikram demands full services of Rana, exclusively, for himself but he uno reverses by striking a bigger deal with his daughter. At this juncture Rauf (Arjun Rampal) gets out of the prison and he has a personal vengeance against Rana. Naga Naidu (Venkatesh) gets to know about the plans of Rauf and what he does with Rana? Watch the series to know more.

Analysis:

Technically, Rana Naidu is better in its Season 2 from its underwhelming Season 1. The writing though doesn’t really get the pitch perfect even in this season. The writers have tried to limit Naga Naidu character but Venkatesh is a big draw in Telugu and too limited screen time does underwhelm people here. Rana Daggubati also tried his best to salvage the situation but it did not seem like a great option to leave a lot on his shoulders.

Rana did his best to rise above the mediocre script and tried to get everything in motion with his commanding presence but the script looked haywire. The emotional connect that the makers wanted to be felt with Rana and his son, did not really land. Even Nitya’s character arc did not really grow beyond being a cardboard piece that tries to fill up a puzzle of sorts.

Venkatesh did well but his character doesn’t have such runtime for him to make any difference. Arjun Rampal did well and his presence makes few episodes watchable. But the writing is so underwhelming that the series finds itself desperately out of depth in finding any sort of connection at any level. Compared to the first one, the Season 2 is much betterly handled rather than being chaotic.

Still, the kind of riveting experience that people expect with Rana and Venkatesh coming together doesn’t happen at all. Even in Second Season, the makers did not really land the tone as well as they should have. Few scenes have sparks but nothing seems to land as it should. Overall, the series looks too loosely written and executed to really become worth of time.

Bottomline:

Rana Naidu Season 2 needed even much better writing and execution to make an impact.

Rating: 2.25/5
