I am writing this 4 working days after the car reached the workshop, and the workshop hasn’t even ordered the parts yet.
Bhpian abhij recently shared this with other enthusiasts:
The first major hurdle in the ownership of my BMW iX1 30 happened in 12th March.
Came back from a drive and parked and the autobraking system braked very hard to avoid an obstacle I wouldnt have hit. But what resulted was a Drivetrain error (Orange Spanner) asking me to send it to the service station “when convenient”.
Googled it quickly and hoping its something that ll go away, tried driving the car next morning. The error changed its state to Urgent (with a Red Spanner) and I sent the car to the OSL Prestige workshop on 12th March afternoon. By the time the car reached the workshop, the error dissappeared itself.
After a day and a half of diagnosis, the call from my service advisor left my heart broken.
This was a serious error. They will have to open up both the sealed motors and service / clean them for this error to go away!(Clean away what? Its a sealed motor)
I am not a very technical person but as I understand it, this requires the local BMW workshop removing the entire suspension and dropping the motors (or part of them).
15,835 kms is what this car has covered. And I find it completely unacceptable that such a major service is required in less than 18 months of ownership.
What makes things worse – I am writing this 4 working days after the car reached the workshop, and the workshop hasnt even ordered the parts yet – They are still in conversation with BMW to understanding the extent of repair.
Loner vehicle? Not available. How long will the parts take? No idea. When will I get the vehicle back? No idea.
So much for “German engineering” I guess.
Need some advice from the forum members.
- Should I accept this repair? Will the car be safe / the same as new once repaired?
- How should I approach BMW India regarding this? What are my rights?
- Should I cut my losses and just sell the car?
Have written to BMW about this. They have called me confirming they have recieved the email.
While searching online, I did not find anything about the ix1 specifically, but the iX has had similar problems in this thread.
Not sure if the comparison in the 2 cars is correct but the most surprising reason on owner mentioned was this one.
