Nirmal: District Cooperative Central Bank (DCCB) director and BRS leader Chikyala Harish Kumar was allegedly kidnapped from his residence by unidentified persons at Ponkal village in Mamada mandal late on Saturday night.

According to police, the assailants abducted Harish while he was asleep around 2 am. They reportedly blindfolded him and tied his hands before attempting to shift him to Hyderabad in a car.


However, Harish managed to escape at a toll plaza in Toopran and approached the local police, who then alerted their counterparts in Mamada.

Police said a case was registered and investigation was underway. More details are expected to emerge following a preliminary inquiry into Harish’s allegations. Officials are probing angles including possible financial disputes involving Harish, which may have led to the abduction. His known rivals are also being tracked.

It was learnt that the kidnappers demanded Rs 3 crore as ransom from Harish after abducting him. He was said to have contacted his friends, requesting them to arrange funds.
