A man, identified as Cheeli Singaiah (55), died after a vehicle in former Chief Minister and YSRCP President Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s convoy hit him on the National Highway near Lord Anjaneya temple, Etukuru village in Guntur on Wednesday (June 18, 2025.)
When the accident happened, Mr. Jagan was organising a rally from Tadepalli in Guntur district to Sattenapalli in Palnadu district to console a party worker’s family, who allegedly ended his life in the aftermath of general elections results last year.
According to police, the accident victim Cheeli Singaiah had come to participate in the rally. Addressing at a joint press conference in Guntur after the accident, Guntur Range Inspector General of Police Sarvashresta Tripathi and Guntur District Superintendent of Police S. Satish Kumar confirmed that Cheeli Singaiah was hit by a vehicle in Mr. Jagan’s convoy.
The SP informed that after the accident, the convoy moved without stopping there and taking care of the victim.
Meanwhile, the police on the patrolling duty at that time have found the victim and shifted him to a hospital but the doctors declared him as brought dead and hence the police registering a case and investigation is on. The deceased Cheeli Singaiah is a resident of Vengalayapalem near Guntur.
Mr. Satish Kumar said, “A vehicle in ex-Chief Minister’s convoy bearing number A.P. 26 CE 0001 hit the victim. When the accident happened, the person was injured but the vehicle moved on. Meanwhile, ASI Rajasekhar admitted the victim in a hospital. Based on merits and complaint, investigation will be conducted. We will take strict action on it.”
“Police gave permission for only three vehicles in addition to the existing official convoy, but large number of vehicles joined unauthorisedly in the rally and action will be taken,” he added.
“The accident happened when the crowd tried to throw flowers on Mr. Jagan’s vehicle. In that process, the victim fell down from one of the vehicle and after that another vehicle ran on him,” the police explained.
