Hyderabad and its surrounding districts are yet to receive significant rainfall to offset the deficit until mid-July.

Hyderabad: The Southwest Monsoons arrived in Telangana a week ahead of schedule, but so far its performance has been subpar. According to the latest data from the Telangana Development Planning Society (TSDPS), the entire State has received deficient rainfall as of Wednesday.
Ideally, by this time of the year, Telangana should have received 72.1 mm of rainfall.
However, it has received 48.5 mm of rainfall, a negative deviation of 33 percent, as indicated by the TSDPS Monsoon-2025 tracker. Out of the 33 districts, seven have experienced normal rainfall, and three have received excess rainfall. The remaining districts, including Hyderabad, fall into either the deficient or largely deficient categories.
Last year, Telangana experienced an excess rainfall year, recording 962.2 mm against an expected 738.6 mm, an excess of 30 percent. In fact, TSDPS Monsoon 2024 data shows that only eight districts received normal rainfall last year, while the rest witnessed excess or largely excess rainfall.
Hyderabad and its surrounding districts are yet to receive significant rainfall to offset the deficit. The neighboring Medchal-Malkajgiri district is in a large deficiency category, having received only 23.7 mm of rainfall compared to an expected 65.1 mm, which is a 64 percent shortfall. While Rangareddy and Vikarabad districts have so far received normal rainfall, Hyderabad itself remains in the deficient category with 26.4 mm of rainfall against a normal of 65 mm, marking a 59 percent shortage.
Districts that are placed in large deficit rainfall category include Mancherial, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanumakonda, Karimnagar, Sircilla, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Suryapet and Mulugu.
