Filmmaker SS Rajamouli is known for his unthinkable feats when it comes to onscreen storytelling. Now he is at it again with something humongous. Reportedly the film set for his upcoming movie starring Superstar Mahesh Babu has costed Rs 50 crore.
The Baahubali director wanted to recreate the ancient city of Varanasi. So he has installed a film set worth Rs 50 crore inside Ramoji Film City. The decision to set up a film set with such big investment was made given the logistical challenges to shoot in the real streets of Varanasi.
Shooting in real locations might pose several challenges when it comes to managing the crowds at river banks or for that matter getting permissions from the police. So Rajamouli thought of building a replica of Varanasi city. The film set would have the iconic ghats and temples along with riverfronts to give an authentic look on the screen.
If we may recall the film Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas which was known for its opulent film sets, actually shot with a total budget of Rs 50 crore. Bajirao Mastani, Heeramandi, Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo — film sets installed for these films cost around Rs 15 to Rs 20 crore.
But the forthcoming film of Mahesh Babu seems to be one of the most expensive ever in the history of Indian cinema. Touted to be a story that was drawn inspiration from Lord Hanuman’s mythological insights and other elements of exploration (like searching for healing herbs at Mount Dronagiri), the film’s budget is pegged at Rs 1,000 crore.
The film also stars priyanka chopra, south actor prithviraj sukukuran, most of the chopra. Music is composed by PM keeravani.
