The Telangana Prohibition and Excise Department has busted two major rackets, one involving the sale of Army canteen liquor and another linked to the manufacture of adulterated alcohol, from different parts of Hyderabad.

In the first case, raids were carried out in Malkajgiri and Ghatkesar, seizing a total of 58 bottles of Army canteen liquor on Thursday alone. While 30 bottles were recovered from a residential plot in Yapral, Alwal, another 28 were confiscated from a car in Ghatkesar. One person, identified as Nikhil, was arrested. These raids follow earlier seizures of 1,188 liquor bottles, including 37 bottles in Malkajgiri and 115 bottles worth ₹2.3 lakh in Shamshabad, all part of a special drive against non-duty paid liquor.

Meanwhile, in Kacheguda, officials from the State Task Force (STF) uncovered a spurious liquor manufacturing unit being operated from a house in Osman Nagar. The accused, Goriki Srinivas, was allegedly refilling premium liquor bottles with cheap alcohol and selling them at discounted rates. Seven bottles of adulterated liquor and 106 empty branded bottles were seized during the raid. Srinivas, who had previously worked as a driver, is said to have been running the operation for nearly three years.

Officials have raised concern over the growing sale of defence canteen liquor and adulterated alcohol in residential areas, which not only disrupts legitimate liquor revenue but also poses health risks. Enforcement teams have vowed continued vigilance, particularly in areas near defence canteens and other such high-risk zones.
