In a strong enforcement drive, Hyderabad Traffic Police jailed 133 individuals for drunk driving over the past 20 days, including 38 in a single day.

Hyderabad: A total of 133 persons, who were caught by the Hyderabad Traffic Police in the last 20 days on charges of drunk driving, have been sent to jail for durations ranging from one day to 14 days. This included 38 persons who were jailed in a single day on Thursday.
According to the Traffic Police, the 133 persons who were sentenced to imprisonment were among 3,358 persons caught for drunk driving and during regular vehicle checking conducted by special teams from June 1 to 26, at various locations across the Hyderabad Police Commissionerate.
All those caught were produced before the court and a total of 5,321 chargesheets were filed. The court which took up proceedings imposed a total fine of Rs 1.1 crore on violators of drunk driving regulations.
Further, requests for temporary cancellation of driving licences were also sent to the Regional Transport Authorities based on the court orders.
The offenders were counseled at the Traffic Training Institutes of Goshamahal and Begumpet in the presence of their family members.
