An IndiGo flight operating from Pune to Hyderabad was unexpectedly diverted to Vijayawada on Sunday morning due to air traffic congestion over Hyderabad, sources said. The aircraft landed safely at Vijayawada without any reported issues.
Flight 6E 6473, which took off from Pune Airport at 8:43 AM, was en route to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad when it was rerouted.
According to airline sources, the pilot made the decision to divert the flight after being notified of congestion in Hyderabad’s airspace. Once conditions permit, the flight is expected to resume its journey from Vijayawada to Hyderabad.
The airline has not yet issued a statement or provided an update on the incident.
Meanwhile, another IndiGo flight (6E 6152) from Kolkata to Ranchi had to be grounded at Ranchi’s Birsa Munda Airport earlier this week because the pilot noticed a possible issue with one of the front tyres.
Though some reports mentioned a tyre puncture, the airport authorities later clarified there was no serious problem. The pilot chose to stop the flight for safety checks as a precaution.
The plane was supposed to go on to Patna and Lucknow after Ranchi, but those trips were cancelled. Passengers going to Patna were sent by taxi, while passengers for Lucknow were moved to other connecting flights. Everyone on board was safely deboarded.
