My Tata Altroz: Finally Found The Right Aftermarket Brake Pad Upgrade

I recently found out that the Altroz Diesel brake pads are similar in dimensions to the one on Volkswagen Polo

The Search Ends

Hi all! I am back with an important update and quite some good news to all the Altroz Diesel/iCNG/DCA owners out there. I have finally found the aftermarket brake upgrade to Altroz diesel after researching on this for more than a year. Though this isn’t a full fledged upgrade but this opens up a lot of options to Altroz Diesel/iCNG/DCA and first gen Nexon Owners.

I recently found out that the Altroz Diesel brake pads are similar in dimensions to the one on polo. The variation is mostly minimal and the pads from VW Polo fit perfectly on Altroz Diesel/ICNG/DCA and Nexon 1st gen. I shall thank United Motors Chennai for helping me solve this never ending puzzle. I recently placed an order for ICER brake pads on german cart and requested for polo brake pads and received it. I installed those pads on my Altroz Diesel and the pads fit just like OEM ones. It has been just 40 Kms since I have changed the pads to ICER hence, I shall update here about the performance post a long drive. I am excited to inform all the current owners on the beautiful options that are now available in front of us for the Altroz as we all know the kind of options Polo has with respect to brake pads. I tried sourcing KBX Ceramic series pad but there was no proper response either from the company officials or from the distributor/dealer.I then checked at alternatives on Boodmo compared to TATA OEM Pads and I found HI-Q (korean Brand), HL Mando(Korean Brand), Roulunds,Super Circle, etc but I wanted semi metallic pads as I read good things about them. Semi-metallic brake pads might reduce disc life but have excellent stopping power. I then found reviews about German Cart on Team BHP and contacted them.

Options given to me by German cart for Polo as stated below:

1)TRW (Semi-metallic)- ₹1800
2)Hella (Ceramic)- ₹2250
3) Texts UK (semi-metallic)- ₹ 2950
4)Icer Spain (Semi-Metallic)- ₹3500
5)Brembo Italy (Semi-Metallic)- ₹4500
6)DBA Street (Ceramic)- 6900
7)Brembo Extra (Ceramic) – 8800

Also I did dig into the disc upgrade options for Altroz on boodmo and found TRW discs apart from KTEK and TVS Girling. The first gen i20 and Verna use 256mm OD (outer dia) brake disc whereas Tata used 254mm OD disc. Thickness is also same in case of both Altroz Diesel brake disc and first gen Verna, i20 disc at 22mm. The only thing to match is the inner hole where the disc seats onto hub. Also we might have to drill a hole onto verna brake disc as Tata uses a single screw to seat the disc which can be fabricated at any lathe shop. With this data from my end I hope current owners will try the permutations and combinations and share your opinions and feedback here.

11)Please note rivet points while installing brake pads during DIY. I am sharing the VW OEM Brake pad images to help DIY folks from making any mistakes during installation. Please note the two rivet positions and install accordingly no matter what brand of brake pads you choose. I have to commend VW for the clear instructions on their brake pads.

I recently placed an order for wipers from dhlighting website for excelite brand frame less wipers and I am enjoying the wiping performance from these wipers. The build quality and locking mechanism is superior on these wipers. I have changed 4 set of wipers in a span of 2.5 years and find the quality of these wipers quite good. The pricing is decent. The dispatch happened 2 days after payment and I had to contact the dh lighting person by sourcing his number from facebook to process the order. You can purchase adaptors for Rs. 49 only for majority of the cars. I your cars use normal J hook system then there’s no need of an adaptor. Finally I get a smooth wiping performance with no squeak or judder at a nominal cost.
