Hyderabad: The Mahalakshmi Free Bus Scheme for women in Telangana is set to cross 200 crore zero tickets on Tuesday. As of July 22, a total of 199.60 crore free tickets have been issued under the scheme, which was launched on December 9 after the Congress government assumed power.
According to the data available with the government, the initiative has helped women save ₹6,671 crore over the last 18 months. While 14 lakh women used the service daily in its initial days, the number has now risen to over 30 lakh, with 8 lakh commuters using city buses in Hyderabad alone every day.
