BRS steps up campaign over BC quota

Hyderabad: With Congress planning a dharna and a meeting with President Droupadi Murmu over 42% reservation for BCs in education, jobs, and local bodies, the BRS too has stepped up its campaign. The party will hold a public meeting in Karimnagar on Aug 8 and is also seeking an appointment with the President. If granted, BRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao is likely to lead a delegation of MLAs and MPs.Former minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav accused the Congress govt of lacking sincerity, claiming the socio-economic survey was “unscientific” and the BC quota bills were passed in haste before being sent to the governor as an ordinance. “How can the state send an ordinance when the earlier Bills are still pending with the President?” he asked.BRS leader B Vinod Kumar echoed the concerns, stating that unless the quota is included in the Constitution’s Schedule 9, it won’t stand legal scrutiny. “Only a constitutional amendment through consensus between Rahul Gandhi and PM Modi can make 42% BC quota possible,” he said.
