Son of Sardaar 2 Advance Shows Weak Ahead of Clash

With just one day left before its release on 1 August, Son of Sardaar 2starring Ajay Devgn and Mrunal Thakur, is facing serious challenges. Advance ticket sales remain sluggish and exhibitors are hesitant to allocate sufficient showtimes. Despite securing about 3,500 screens, distributors had asked for 60% of daily slots, but most chains are offering only around 35%. Single screens, in particular, have confined the film to just two shows per day.

The release clash with Dhadak 2, starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, is intensifying the squeeze for screens. Dhadak 2 has adopted a focused release strategy, opting for around 1,000 screens concentrated in urban multiplexes, which allows it to avoid direct competition over slots. Meanwhile, continuing hits like Saiyaara and Mahavatar Narsimha are holding audience attention and reserve top showtimes.

Further compounding SOS 2’s woes is a noticeable lack of pre-release buzz. While the film capitalized on the legacy of the 2012 hit, promotional material and trailers have received mixed reactions. Songs failed to connect with audiences, and the advance sales are reflecting that underwhelming interest. Analysts now predict a weak opening day net collection of approximately Rs 7–11 crore—far below expectations for a film backed by Ajay Devgn’s star presence.

Although ticket discounts like 50% off on the first day have been announced, such measures may only have limited effect. With screen count shrinking and competition fierce, Son of Sardaar 2 must rely heavily on strong word-of-mouth and critical first-day reviews to recover. The film’s fate now hinges on how audiences respond to its content amid one of the toughest opening weekends expected this season.
