Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘Leo’ had set the box office on fire earlier this year, crossing the Rs 100 crore mark in advance gross collections worldwide for its opening weekend, marking the highest this year.
While Shah Rukh Khan’s films, Pathaan and Jawan, had impressive openings with around 70 crores and 80 crores respectively, they fell short of Leo’s record-breaking advance bookings.
Looking back in history, only a select few films, including the likes of Baahubali 2, KGF 2, and RRR, have achieved the coveted 100-crore mark in advance bookings.
Baahubali 2, in particular, was a cinematic phenomenon, and its 100 crores in advance bookings in 2017 would be equivalent to a staggering 150 crores in 2023, factoring in the rise in Average Ticket Prices.
Now, the speculation in trade circles and among fans centers around which movie will be the next to touch the 100-crore milestone in advance bookings.
Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal has taken a phenomenal start at the advance bookings but touching 100 crore seems out of reach. It can target 50-60 crores at maximum.
The only film that has the potential this year to touch the 100 crores advance worldwide is Prabhas’ Salaar. The hype is tremendous and if the trailer turns out to be as good as Animal then touching 100 crores in advance would be a cakewalk.
Salaar trailer releases on December 1 while the film is all set for a grand release on December 22, 2023.
