Partners with Japanese Firm for Chip Tech

Hyderabad: Telangana has partnered with Japanese firm Toho Koki Seisakusho Co. Ltd. to establish India’s first Chemical Mechanical Polishing (CMP) Pad Technologies Hub at T-Works, Hyderabad. Valued at Rs 8 crore, the hub will operate as an open-access innovation and training centre, allowing students, researchers, startups, and global enterprises to utilise advanced CMP technology domestically for the first time.

IT and industries minister Duddila Sridhar Babu stated that the collaboration paved the way for Japanese semiconductor expertise and created opportunities for Indian firms and researchers to integrate with the global semiconductor supply chain. T-Works will serve as a catalyst for semiconductor innovation.

The hub features India’s first installation of Toho Koki’s CMP groove processing machine, joint R&D with IITs and Indian SMEs aimed at indigenising CMP pad manufacturing within 18–24 months, workshops to drive industry–academia dialogue and outbound visits for Indian SMEs to Japan’s Mie Semiconductor Network. The Centre of Excellence at T-Works will also welcome Japanese corporates and startups into India’s expanding semiconductor ecosystem.

Takuya Nishimura, global business head of Toho Koki, said the partnership aligns with the Make in India initiative and will empower Indian companies in the semiconductor space. T-Works CEO Joginder Tanikella represented the Telangana government in formalising the collaboration.
