Goud unveils martyrs memorial in honour of 10 villagers

Hyderabad: Telangana Congress president B Mahesh Kumar Goud on Friday unveiled a martyrs memorial at Vallala village in Nalgonda district, constructed by party veteran V Hanumanth Rao. The memorial, located at the zilla parishad high school premises, commemorates 10 villagers who lost their lives in 1948 while hoisting the national flag during the fight against the Nizam’s rule.Hanumanth Rao recalled that although India became independent on Aug 15, 1947, the Nizam’s rule and Razakar militia continued in Telangana. “In 1948, villagers who hoisted the flag at Vallala were shot by Nizam’s soldiers, killing 10 instantly. This memorial honours their supreme sacrifice,” he said. Speaking at the event, Mahesh Goud highlighted the importance of the armed struggle for Hyderabad’s integration into India. “Many sacrificed their lives for freedom. The Congress govt will develop this educational institution as a model school. The Operation Polo succeeded due to Prime Minister Nehru’s orders and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s leadership. This memorial will inspire future generations,” he added. Meanwhile, the TPCC announced that Mahesh Goud’s Janahitha padayatra will resume from Sept 16, with AICC in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, ministers, and chief minister A Revanth Reddy expected to participate on one of the days.
