Hyderabad: Hyderabad reeled under the impact of Wednesday’s deluge well into Thursday, with traffic snarls and power cuts continuing to trouble residents even after floodwaters started to recede. With major junctions and arterial roads still inundated, commuters reported being stuck in jams till late into the night. “I left my office at 8pm, but reached home past 11pm. The roads near Paradise were completely jammed,” said Sindhu V, a marketing professional and Secunderabad resident. Authorities said clearance operations were on, but warned commuters of delays until the water fully drains out.HYDRAA commissioner AV Ranganath on Thursday inspected flood-hit localities, including Gayatri Colony in Ameerpet, Amar Society in Madhapur, and Sriram Nagar in Baglingampally. He directed officials to identify the root causes of flooding and ensure permanent solutions. Residents of Gayatri Nagar and Amar Society complained of inundation due to silted drains and rising water levels in Durgam Cheruvu. “We assured them of remedial measures in coordination with the GHMC and irrigation department. In Sriram Nagar, a nala will be constructed and linked to the Hussainsagar surplus channel. The issue will be resolved in two days,” Ranganath said. Several localities reported prolonged outages as electricity poles collapsed and wires were damaged after being submerged. Low-lying areas such as Mushirabad, Begumpet, and parts of Secunderabad were the worst hit. Residents said they endured hours without electricity, adding to the discomfort of flooded homes and waterlogged streets.“It was pitch dark inside our house till Thursday afternoon. We couldn’t even use fans or charge our phones. The children were terrified,” said Shabana Begum, a resident of Mushirabad. In Begumpet, office-goers said the outage made it difficult to get ready for work. “There was no power from 10 pm (on Wednesday) till almost noon today (Thursday). Even basic chores such as ironing clothes and heating water became a struggle,” said Rajesh Kumar, who works in an IT firm.Officials from the Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company (TGSPDCL) said restoration was taking longer. “But as and when we were receiving complaints, our teams were attending to them,” said an official, adding that they received 2,560 complaints.
