
Homebound has been announced as the country’s official entry to the Best International Feature category at the 98th Academy Awards.

Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, Homebound stars Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa and Janhvi Kapoor in key roles. As reported by Outlook, the film beat more than 10 films in the Oscars 2026 race.

Reportedly, Abhishek Bachchan’s I Want to Talk was also being considered as India’s official entry for Oscars 2026.

Not just this, Anupam Kher’s Tanvi The Great was also in the race. Released in July 2025, the film revolved around an autistic woman who pursues her late father’s dream to salute the tricolour at Siachen Glacier.

Homebound also surpassed Vivek Agnihotri’s recently released movie The Bengal Files to become India’s official entry at the Oscars 2026.

Allu Arjun’s blockbuster film, Pushpa 2: The Rule, was also being considered but did not make it as India’s official entry at the Oscars 2026.

Homebound also beat Kesari: Chapter 2. Released in April 2025, the latter starred Akshay Kumar and R Madhavan in the lead.

Superboys of Malegaon was also in the race but could not make it to India’s Oscars 2026 list.

Released in June 2025, Vishnu Manchu’s Kannappa was also being considered by the jury for India’s official entry at Oscars 2025.

After winning the Best Experimental Film Award at Cannes, Meta The Dazzling Girl, was also eying an Oscar.
