
Maharashtra Mumbai Rains LIVE Updates: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded ‘red’ alert in Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Palghar districts for Sunday. The warning, which will remain in place until Monday morning, has been sounded owing to the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning in isolated pockets.
Parts of Mumbai woke up to moderate to heavy rainfall on Saturday, amid a ‘yellow’ alert. The Colaba station received 54 mm rain while the Santacruz observatory received 12 mm rainfall in the past 24 hours. Mumbai has already received 445 mm of rainfall this September, which is significantly higher than its typical monthly average of 380 mm.

Govt advisory: The government has appealed to the public to follow official instructions, avoid hazardous zones and refrain from travelling to flood-prone areas, as per a release. People are advised not to take shelter under trees during thunderstorms and to take all precautions for flood safety, avoiding unnecessary travel. They have also been strictly cautioned against crossing waterlogged roads or bridges, and urged not to spread or believe rumours, the release stated.
