The BJP organised grand celebrations on the birth anniversary of renowned Telugu poet Gurram Jashuva at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram, here on Sunday. The event saw prominent leaders, writers and intellectuals paying tributes to Jashuva, hailing him as a symbol of national pride, patriotism and social reform.
Film lyricist Anantha Sriram, the chief guest, described Jashuva as a noble personality who embodied greatness. He noted that Jashuva fearlessly critiqued social evils while maintaining respect and dignity, preserving national values, and empathising with marginalised communities without bitterness. Recalling an anecdote, Sriram mentioned that legendary singer Ghantasala had once composed music for Jashuva’s works, treating him as the “son of Goddess Saraswati”.
A.P. BJP president P.V.N. Madhav called Jashuva a great patriot and national voice, urging the State to celebrate Jashuva Jayanti annually under the theme “Voice of Harmony, Voice of Nationalism.” Mr. Madhav highlighted Jashuva’s patriotic writings, referencing leaders such as Shivaji, Subhas Chandra Bose, Swami Vivekananda, and Mahatma Gandhi, and noted his support for Indian soldiers during the China war.
Former Minister Dokka Manikya Vara Prasad praised Jashuva’s literary contribution, recalling how the poet referred to himself as the “son of Bharat Mata.” Adoni BJP MLA Parthasarathi observed that Jashuva’s works continue to inspire society to overcome despair. R.D. Wilson, chairman of Telugu Sanskriti Andhra Corporation, lauded Jashuva as a “literary sculptor” who immortalised the glory of Bharat Mata and Swami Vivekananda.
The celebrations included a procession carrying Jashuva’s portrait, floral tributes, and participants listening to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Mann Ki Baat”. BJP leaders, including SC Morcha State president Panatala Suresh, State general secretaries Nagotu Ramesh Naidu, Matta Prasad, and others, attended the event.
