In three separate incidents in NTR, Eluru, and Krishna districts, a 10-year-old girl and a fisherman drowned, while another woman is feared drowned.
A 10-year-old girl, U. Keerthana, from Gummadiduru village, was washed away in the Munneru stream in NTR district on Saturday. The victim, who was visiting relatives in Vemulapalli village of Kanchikacherla mandal during the Dasara holidays, had gone to the stream to wash clothes when she accidentally slipped into the water, locals said. Her body was later recovered.
Separately, a 60-year-old fisherman, Singothu Nagur of Puligadda Pallipalem village, died after accidentally falling into a canal while fishing on Friday. A resident of Avanigadda mandal in Krishna district, his body was retrieved by the Avanigadda police, who registered a case.
In another case, V. Vimala, a 66-year-old woman, is feared drowned in the Polaraju canal at Mudinepalli in Eluru district. Police, Fire, and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel have launched a search to locate her, according to Eluru DSP D. Sravan Kumar.
