HC pulls up Badangpet civic body over illegal constructions

Hyderabad: The Telangana high court has directed the Badangpet Municipal Corporation, located on the outskirts of Hyderabad, to take firm and immediate action against illegal constructions on encroached lands under its jurisdiction. The order was passed on Sept 24 by Justice B Vijaysen Reddy, while hearing a petition filed by the American township plot owners welfare association, a residents’ welfare association (RWA) from Balapur, Badangpet. The association alleged that a real estate firm and an individual had encroached upon a portion of land earmarked for a public road and had begun construction activity there. Despite multiple complaints, the RWA said, the municipal corporation had failed to act against the violators. Taking serious note of the allegations, the court directed the authorities to take immediate enforcement action against the violators—”if necessary, with police aid from the police station concerned.” In its plea, the association sought directions to the corporation to consider its representation submitted in June 2025, stop the ongoing illegal construction, and restore the encroached land to its original use—a 40-ft public road as shown in the approved layout. The petitioners’ counsel, B Keerthi Reddy, further requested the court to restrain the violators from carrying out any further encroachments or construction activity on the public road. During the hearing, the standing counsel for the Badangpet Municipal Corporation informed the court that demolition action had already been taken earlier based on the petitioners’ complaint, but the violators resumed construction despite the earlier removal. The counsel assured that fresh action would be initiated to prevent further encroachments. Recording the submissions, Justice Vijaysen Reddy directed the municipal authorities to proceed strictly in accordance with law and ensure compliance with the layout provisions. The matter was adjourned to be heard along with similar petitions pending before the court.
