The South Central Railway (SCR), Vijayawada division, created a milestone by transporting 2.8 lakh outward passengers on a single day (October 4) and generated ₹5 crore revenue.
The total (inward and outward passengers) footfall of passengers was 5.5 lakh, which has been the highest-ever achievement in the operational history of Vijayawada division, said Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Mohit Sonakiya on Sunday.
The SCR officials have opened 25 additional booking and reservation counters at major railway stations, arranged 72 Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) and deployed sufficient ATMC operators round-the-clock to handle the rush at the stations, said Public Relations Officer Nusrat M. Mandrupkar in a press release.
The DRM congratulated the officers and staff who helped manage hassle-free transportation during the peak situation. The record breaking figures of passengers on a single day highlighted the trust and confidence of passengers in Indian Railways, and reaffirm that Vijayawada division and the station is one of the busiest junction in the country, said Mr. Sonakiya.
Meanwhile, heavy rush was seen at all major railway stations on Sunday, with passengers returning to their workplaces after Dasara vacations. The Vijayawada, Eluru, Bhimavaram, Rajahmundry, Machilipatnam, Narsapur and other railway stations were seen packed on Sunday.
“I came to Machilipatnam to celebrate Dasara with my family members. As the holidays have ended, we are returning to Chennai,” said S. Srivalli, a private employee from Krishna district.
Trains moving towards Chennai, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam and other cities were seen packed since Sunday afternoon.
