Hyderabad: Foreign Woman Harassed Near Charminar, Abusive Slur Caught on Video (Screengrab from Viral Video)
Hyderabad: A video has surfaced on social media in which a foreign national confronted a group of young Indian men who allegedly harassed his female friend near the iconic Charminar, Hyderabad. The video has triggered anger among netizens, who criticised the men for outraging the woman’s modesty by hurling disgusting remarks. The Hyderabad Police has also taken cognisance of the matter, as the video went insanely viral on the internet. The incident is said to have happened on October 2.
The viral video showed the men passing remarks at the foreign woman, calling her “white p****”. The video begins with a busy street scene. A man shouts the slur, followed by a short argument among a group of men. One man tries to calm things down and warns, “You should be careful about what you say because people can hear.” The group then walks away.
The clip quickly went viral on social media, with many people condemning the behaviour and calling it shameful and unacceptable.
One user commented, “Tourists should experience India’s respect and hospitality, not abuse. This behaviour is not okay.”
The Hyderabad City Police responded on X (formerly Twitter) saying, “The matter has been brought to the notice of SHO Charminar, and necessary action is being taken.”
Safety Concerns for Women Tourists
The incident has raised fresh concerns about women’s safety in tourist areas. Data from the National Commission for Women shows that harassment complaints in public places went up by 15% in 2023–24.
Police are now investigating and trying to identify the people involved. The quick police response has been praised as a good example of social media helping speed up action.
