‘Virat Kohli will play a major role in…’: Jacques Kallis on Test series vs South Africa | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: India has a woeful record in South Africa as they have played eight Test series so far but yet to win a series against the Proteas in their own backyard.
And former South African legend Jacques Kallis believes that for India to conquer the South African stronghold, they will need to depend on Virat Kohli. The former India captain Kohli boasts of a good Test record against South Africa on their soil.In 14 innings, Kohli has amassed 719 runs with an impressive average of 51.36. Throughout this period, Kohli has notched up two centuries and three half-centuries.
Speaking to Star Sports, Kallis also reckoned that considering Kohli’s good run in South Africa, he could play a pivotal role in guiding and supporting his teammates.
“He’s a massive player, no matter where it is. Having played here quite a bit and had a fair amount of success. He’ll be able to pass that knowledge on to the other guys, especially the younger guys and give them ideas on how to manage these conditions and then what to expect.”

“I am sure he will want to have a big series here in South Africa. He has been in good form. I think he will play a major role in helping India. If they are to win here, he will have to have a good series,” said Kallis.
India’s two-match Test series will be a part of World Test Championship (WTC) cycle and Kallis thinks Centurion where the first Test will be played will probably suit South Africa more.
“This is a good Indian team but South Africa is tough to beat in South Africa. Centurion will probably suit South Africa and Newlands will probably suit India. It will be a good series and it will come down to one or two sessions that one team might play better than the other. It would be a closely-fought contest,” said Kallis.
