Cycling and running on Mumbai’s new promenade: A safe space for kids

Cycling and running on Mumbai’s new promenade: A safe space for kids BHPian Axe77 recently shared this with other enthusiasts: I recently took a couple of rental bikes to go cycling with my wife and son on the promenade and followed it up with another solo cycling session on my road bike just to explore the full promenade, finally followed by an easy run a few days later. I have to say it’s absolutely fantastic, especially for taking kids cycling in a safe space and even for running in general. Personally, I can imagine using it for running, although for road cycling, I’d likely prefer to be on the normal roads so I can cycle freely at proper speeds. But for easy cruising with family, it’s a nice, safe option. Btw – the cycle rentals were from a place called Velocrush if anyone visiting Mumbai wants to rent bikes and cycle on the promenade. Their pick up point for the bikes is less than 1.5 kms or so from Worli Sea Face. They have an Instagram page with the name Velocrush. The Worli promenade ends somewhere behind the Samudra Mahal building which is well before Haji Ali. I’m not sure if the ultimate plan is to seamlessly connect it to the similar promenade that stretches from Haji Ali to SoBo. One continuous promenade will be ideal but not sure if the plan is to ultimately connect the two. Currently, there’s a big gap, so one would have to exit well before Samudra Mahal and run from the outside all the way till Haji Ali before one can re-enter the promenade that starts from Haji Ali / Mahalakshmi temple. Leaving some pics from two different sessions in the last week or so. Btw, if anyone is curious, here’s a Strava map from a 6 km run. The start point indicates the entrance using PUP 12. I started the run on the actual promenade (after making the walk inside using the PUP); ran southbound, turned around at the furthest end (behind Samudra Mahal) and then ran back till the farthest North end of the promenade. At the end of the promenade, I exited and ran from the older Worli promenade that runs along the WSF road to end at the entrance of PUP 12. Hope that makes sense. This full loop was ~6 kms (ran ~150 mtrs further ahead and back to make it a clean 6 km). The blue edge markings are the main promenade while the right side strava map runs along the Worli Seaface road (basically for the most part, the erstwhile promenade before the coastal road existed).
