BHPian Dippy recently shared this with other enthusiasts: The MG Comet has been quite a unique car in the Indian market. In my opinion, it is the closest that one could get to the Kei cars of Japan. Looks-wise, it is a standout, and I quite like the funky styling. Some may not agree with me on that front. The interiors are nice too. I feel we need more such cars in India, and here’s why I feel so. Commuting With The MG CometI used the MG Comet extensively over a period of a few months. I drove it in both crowded city streets and on the open road as a daily commuter. I alternated using it with my Thar. In the city, simply nothing beats the Comet. The compact dimensions make turning it in tight spots a breeze. Parking is also a piece of cake, and you can simply put it in the tightest of spots without a bother. While the car itself isn’t outright fun to drive, it’s quite peppy, and that’s all you need for a city commute. I also used it on the open road during my commute from South Mumbai to Thane, which involved using the Eastern Express Highway. This was where I was not very comfortable. While I drove at moderate speeds, the other cars just flying past me would shake the car due to its light weight. A few days of driving on the EEH, and I decided to use it for in-city commute only. Coming to other things, the boot is nonexistent, and the two-door layout isn’t convenient. That said, it is fine as a city runabout. For the big grocery runs, you just need to drop the seats for boot space. During my time with the car, I consistently got a realistic range of 170 to 180 km on every charge. This was the non-fast charging variant. Due to the small battery, even charging it on a 15A plug didn’t take more than a few hours. So to summarize, using this cute little car over a few months made me feel that this size of car is perfect for daily use. Small dimensions and a decent feature set, you really don’t need more in a daily-use car. I genuinely feel our manufacturers should explore possibilities for getting more such cars into our market. They just make so much sense for our overcrowded cities. Not to mention, they occupy less space on the road as well.
