Hyderabad: A 51-year-old sanitation worker of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) was allegedly sexually assaulted on a foot overbridge in the Erragadda area on Friday.
The Borabanda police have arrested a 45-year-old man for committing the crime.
The victim was on her way to her cleaning duties in AG Colony around 4 am. To cross the busy highway, she used the foot overbridge located near the ESI Hospital.
According to Borabanda police, the woman was allegedly intercepted by the accused, identified as Namburi Raju (45), who was reportedly drunk at the time. Raju, who works as a watchman at an apartment in Model Colony, allegedly confined and raped the woman on the footbridge.
After the assault, the victim managed to reach the police checkpost set up for Jublihills election duty. Cops later informed to Borabanda police, who acted swiftly and apprehended Raju.
“The accused has been arrested and a case has been registered under relevant sections. Investigation is currently underway,” police said.
