Authorities at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport said that on Saturday morning they received a bomb threat email that talked about some “onboard LTTE-ISIS operative’, following which an inbound IndiGo flight was diverted to a nearby facility. The airport authorities raised an alarm after the email warned of a 1984 Madras (now Chennai) airport bomb blast-like attack.
An official from RGI Airport briefed that at around 5:25 am on Saturday (November 1, 2025), the Airport Operations Control Center (APOC) received an alert regarding a threat email sent to the facility’s customer support account (RGIA.Customersupport@gmrgroup.in).
The message, originating from the email address Papita Rajan
at 5:25 am, carried the subject line: “Prevent landing of IndiGO 68 to Hyderabad”.
According to the official, the threat email warned, “Onboard LTTE-ISI operatives have planned a major 1984 Madras Airport Modus Operandi style blast on impact at the RGIA Port Fuselages and Fuel tanks fixed with microbots. The IEDs will contain potent nerve gas. Frankfurt operation a test to study remedies. Please read steganographic document below for IED location details, read between lines”.
In response, the Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) convened a virtual meeting between 5:39 am and 6:22 am, ultimately classifying the message as a specific threat.
The committee recommended that:
The concerned flight be diverted to the nearest airport, Air Traffic Control (ATC) promptly inform the flight captain, and the captain confirm the diversion airport.
Additionally, GMR Security was directed to file a police complaint.
