Janhvi Kapoor has had multiple Hindi releases this year, but none managed to make a mark at the box office. However, she earned a rare distinction when “Homebound” was selected as India’s official entry for the 98th Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category.
The film is now set to premiere on Netflix tomorrow.
Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, “Homebound” follows two friends, played by Ishaan Khatter and Vishal Jethwa, as they prepare for the national police exam. Janhvi Kapoor appears as Sudha Bharti, a young woman who falls in love with one of them. The film received strong critical acclaim and now hopes to advance further in the Oscar race.
Netflix confirmed the premiere with a post that read: “A long road home. A friend that feels like home. India’s official entry for the 98th Academy Awards for Best International Feature Film. Homebound is out 21 November on Netflix.”
It remains to be seen how OTT audiences will receive the film.
