The sedan segment has been witnessing a steady decline in sales with each passing month. However, a few models are still serving including the Honda City, which once had a cult following in India. Aiming to revive its sales, Honda Cars India is planning to introduce the sixth-generation City sometime in 2028.
All-New Platform
According to media reports, the sedan’s all-new model will be based on the PF2 modular platform that recently unveiled at Honda Automotive Technology Workshop. Officially named as the next-gen midsize hybrid platformthe PF2 is claimed to be highly rigid, 90kg lighter and fully modular. This architecture has been boosted with several advanced technologies and allows the carmaker to use over 60% of components across different models. This will not only improve development and product efficiency, but also help reduce manufacturing costs.

Honda 0 Series Sedan Inspired Design
The new Honda City 2028 might derive its design inspiration from Honda 0 Series sedan concept, which was showcased at the recently concluded Japan Mobility Show. This suggest that the next-gen City will feature a new design language and receive radical design changes.
Same Petrol & Hybrid Powertrains
Mechanically, the sedan might remain unchanged. It’s expected to come with the existing 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol and petrol-hybrid powertrain options. The petrol version will be available with 6-speed manual and CVT gearbox options, while the petrol-hybrid version will continue with the eCVT transmission.
A look at its journey so far!
First launched in 1998, the Honda City midsize sedan is an ionic and one of the brand’s longest-running models in India. The model received its first generational upgrade in 2003, becoming the first car in the country to offer a CVT option. The third and fourth generation versions arrived with significant changes in 2008 and 2014, respectively.
The City is currently in its fifth-generation, and available with the 1.5L petrol and hybrid (e-HEV) powertrain options.
