WEST BOYLSTON — The West Boylston football team had a special guest for dinner Thursday night.
A day before the third-seeded Lions (8-2) will play No. 2 Lee (10-0) in a Division 8 state semifinal, former Patriots player Patrick Pass showed up to West Boylston’s team dinner on Shrewsbury St.

A three-time Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots, Pass delivered a bit of a pep talk to the legion of Lions ahead of their latest MIAA playoff game on Friday.
“First off, I want to say congratulations to you guys on a job well done (on) making it to the semifinals tomorrow,” said Pass as West Boylston coaches and players listened from nearby picnic tables set up inside CREST Technologies. “… I applaud what you guys are doing, and I know you’re going to go out there and get the job done.”

West Boylston is playing in its fourth straight state semifinal and are the winners of three consecutive Super Bowl titles — one in Division 7 and two in Division 8.

Pass, a former fullback, running back and special teams’ player for the Patriots, told the Lions about his time playing for Bill Belichick, made an unintentional 6-7 reference and took questions from the West Boylston players before they chowed down on Caesar salad, chicken parm and cookies.
“You guys are on the cusp of something very, very extraordinary,” said Pass, while wearing a blue Patriots Super Bowl champions sweatshirt. “… That’s something I haven’t done. So, you guys are about to do something very, very special.”
For the Lions, it was a special sign to have a former Super Bowl champion crash their team dinner Thursday night — a day before they try to secure another trip to Gillette Stadium, where Pass used to play.

“It was a great thing for our program,” West Boylston coach Mike Ross said.
“It shows how important our program is for a Patriots player to come (talk to us), whose won all those Super Bowls and played with the best team ever,” said West Boylston senior captain Dom Renzoni, who leads Central Mass. in rushing yards (1,881) and rushing TDs (32). “It’s just really cool to see him come to West Boylston.”
