Allari Naresh is choosing different scripts with diverse subjects. Now, he tried a thriller with 12A Railway Colony. The movie is written by Polimera fame Dr. Anil Vishwanath and directed by Nani Kasaragadda in Srinivasaa Chitturi Production. Let’s discuss about the film in detail.

Plot:

Karthik (Allari Naresh) is a local rowdy and he has his sights on a neighborhood lady Aaradhana (Kamakshi Bhaskarla). He tries to help her achieve her ambition of becoming a badminton player by arranging money for her tournament. But he finds her dead and her ghost interacting with him. What happened to her? Did local political leader Tillu (Jeevan) kill her? Did her husband Jaya Dev Shinde (Aneesh Kuruvilla) help him or is he the killer? Watch the movie to know more.

Analysis:

Allari Naresh has put his hundred percent effort to infuse life into a character that feels very ordinary. At places, he seemed slightly odd due to the lifelessness in the scenes. He did everything he is asked for and when the script supports his efforts in the final twenty minutes, the movie looks better. Kamkshi Bhaskarla has almost been sidelined even though her character holds key for the story. Her portions needed to be handled much better.

Sai Kumar did not have any effect while Jeevan felt like over did than necessary. Production values seemed too sub-standard with it being obvious that at many places, the makers have tried to cheat Hyderabad for Mumbai. Each frame composition, lighting, blocking all look too sub-standard and rushed without any thought process behind them. Nani Kasaragadda needed to have a little bit more imagination in framing to bring out that lived-in feel.

Writing wise, Anil Vishwanath seems to be fixated for the twists in the final 20-25 minutes screenplay. For any twist to work, you need a strong build-up. Naresh and Kamakshi love story needed to be strongly established and written for the next half to work like magic. Also, each twist is predictable and nothing feels really shocking. So, the belief in those twists did not really work out for the narrative.

Also, the writing feels like first draft level and most things have been developed a little later than really being planned properly. Many RGV company movies have been made around such premises in early 2000’s and it becomes easy to guess all proceedings. 12A Railway Colony needed to have a better script and even good level of understanding about the narrative basics, principles to let audience involve into the film. Overall, it is a wasted effort.

Bottomline:

The final twists cannot subside for a wasted 2 hours runtime.

Rating: 1.75/5
