Doctors’ body urges Telangana govt. to appoint medical professional as KNRUHS Vice-Chancellor

Days after the vice-chancellor of Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) resigned following allegations of administrative and exam-related irregularities, the Telangana Government Doctors Association (TGGDA) has said that the post should be given to a qualified and senior doctor, noting that health universities in the country have traditionally been headed by medical professionals.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the association expressed concern over reports that the Telangana government is considering appointing an IAS officer as the temporary vice-chancellor. The association said any deviation from established practice could weaken academic standards, affect institutional autonomy and undermine the specialised nature of medical education.

It said it was disappointing that Telangana, despite having many honest, capable and academically accomplished doctors, was overlooking deserving professionals for the post. The association added that the State has senior doctors with integrity, strong teaching credentials and proven administrative experience who are well placed to lead the university in a transparent and effective manner.
