BHPian shankar.balan recently shared this with other enthusiasts: The Mysore-Hunsur-Kushalnagara-Madikeri route is in good shape. I drove that road a month ago. The roads from Madikeri to Virajpet are not in good shape. Internal Coorg roads are not in a good state either. The Hunsur-Gonikoppal-Virajpet route is also fine (I drove Mysore – Gonikoppal last week Monday), but when you take the left fork from the main Mysore road, you’ll find a bit of road works going on. And there are a few lateral trenches and potholes to contend with. Returning via Arkalgud, Gorur, Hassan and all – That’s generally a very good road. But it is less populous than the normal route. And there are fewer nice eateries and things on that road. Personally, I would always advocate the more populous route, especially when travelling with family and for greater availability of washrooms and food places.
