BHPian neil.jericho recently shared this with other enthusiasts: A couple of months ago, I had ridden down to Cochin, and ever since then, the mileage of the Suzuki GSXRRRR 250 had dropped from the usual 30+ kmpl to figures in the late 20s. In addition to this, the motorcycle also became unusually buzzy at highway speeds, which was unexpected given that I had switched to Amsoil’s highly regarded fully synthetic engine oil while getting the GSXRRR 250 serviced on that same trip. I had a couple of bottles of STP Super Concentrated Fuel Injector Cleaner lying around and wanted to see if it made any perceptible difference to the newfound gruffness of the Suzuki. For reference, I use similar products from Liqui Moly and STP in all my vehicles (usually every 6 – 12 months), and only once did I feel a noticeable change on my Triumph Street Triple 675. The engine is now back to its typical single-cylinder smoothness, and the mileage figures have returned to their usual numbers. Looking back, I did tank up at an old BP petrol bunk at Thevara (have tanked up there multiple times in the past,) and the problem of the increased vibrations and reduced mileage began since then. Is this a case of definite causality or likely correlation? Or did the long shadow of E20 fuel have a role to play in all of this? It’s hard to say with a high degree of certainty, but I’m glad that the motorcycle is back to its true self, thanks to the fuel injector cleaner.Mileage & Range:On the topic of mileage, the overall mileage since day 1 stands at 33.57 kmpl. This is across 85 tank-ups. The highest mileage that I have achieved is 41.46 kmpl, while the lowest is 25.00 kmpl (which is KTM Duke 390 territory). It takes some calm, peaceful riding to get figures in the 40+ kmpl range, and you have to be really hard on the throttle to let the numbers dip into the mid 20s. The average mileage figure in itself doesn’t paint the full picture now, does it? Since the motorcycle has been designed and engineered to be an old-school, all-around sports tourer, the real-world distances that it can cover on each tankful are important to bear in mind, especially while you are touring and on the lookout for good petrol stations. With the 12-litrefuel tank and its average mileage of 33.57 kmpl, one can easily achieve a 350 km range, especially if the cruising speeds are between 90 to 100 kmph.
