The Communist Party of India (CPI) will organise a massive public meeting at Khammam on January 18 as part of its centenary celebrations, aiming to demonstrate that communism cannot be eliminated, CPI State Secretary and MLA Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao said on Friday.
Addressing the media at the CPI State office, he said the public meeting would be organised with five lakh people on an unprecedented scale to counter claims that communists no longer exist.
He announced that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy would be invited to the meeting to convey a message of communal harmony. Leaders of national Left parties and representatives from 40 countries would also be invited to participate in the centenary celebrations. A conference of national Left party leaders would be held in Khammam on January 19.
The centenary celebrations of the Communist Party of India (CPI) were held with grandeur in Hyderabad, highlighting the party’s hundred-year-long ideological and political journey.
The event, jointly organised by the Telangana Martyrs Memorial Trust and Telangana Arasam, brought together families of freedom fighters, progressive writers, artists and intellectuals.
Former High Court judge Justice B. Chandrakumar criticised the ruling establishment, alleging that exploiters were being projected as patriots, while those protecting national resources through sacrifice were being branded as enemies. He was addressing the gathering at Ravi Narayana Reddy Auditorium.
CPI National Secretary Palla Venkat Reddy recalled the CPI’s historic role in the freedom movement and the Telangana armed peasant struggle against the Nizam’s autocratic rule, stating that the party had liberated nearly 3,500 villages through mass resistance.
