Fake anti-rabies vaccines detected in India trigger global alerts as US, UK and Australia track travellers and supply chain failures.

Hyderabad:  A quiet alert from Hyderabad has grown into a global public health concern globally, after counterfeit anti-rabies vaccines were detected among travellers to India.

Authorities in the United States, United Kingdom and Australia are tracing recipients of fake Abhayrab doses, a vaccine made by Indian Immunologicals Limited.

Australia first issued a warning, followed by the US CDC after a rabies case in a returning traveller. Investigations found the fakes entered supply chains via wholesalers in major cities, prompting nationwide surveillance and tighter purchase checks nationwide alerts.
