BHPian traderjagadeesh recently shared this with other enthusiasts: It’s been around 6 months since I deep-cleaned the interiors. Clocked around 15k Kms since then with a lot of road trips. And the time has come to put a pause on the trips for at least 3 months and focus on my work. So, it’s time to dig deeper into the detailing stuff on weekends to decon and seal the paint so that it is prepared for the rest of the year.Started with deep cleaning the interiors, as that’s something that I don’t enjoy much. So better to do that first. Upon inspection, there are no hard stains anywhere. I always get rid of those as early as I can, as I have a 13-month-old son who does stuff. I give a quick wipe to the interiors with an ONR dampened microfiber cloth or Koch Chemie polstar at 1:20 once in a while during the maintenance washes when I feel it is visibly dusty(once in 3 weeks or a month or so). So it won’t be a disaster detail kind of scenario on 6-month deep cleaning sessions. As they say, if you are regular with taking care of your teeth, you might not need a dentist in your lifetime. The same is true in detailing as well. How do I personally prepare for the deep cleaning of interiors? As far as the equipment is concerned, I will have a soft detailing brush to agitate the piano black buttons and stuff, a hard one for the AC vents, pedals, etc. Two to three low nap microfibers for wiping and agitating large areas like doors, if needed. An interior scrub pad to deal with hard or greasy stains. A bottle of ONR solution taken from the previous maintenance wash always stays inside my car. And I have a cordless chinese vaccum cleaner that goes into the cigarette socket, which is more than enough to finish the job. And No. You don’t need a high end vaccum cleaner, or steam and other fancy stuff, as long as you maintain it well. Leave those for the professional detailers.I inspect the interiors to decide on the chemicals I need to prepare:a) If it is a disaster detail kind of scenario(never had that in the past 5 years), I will go with Koch Chemie MZR at 1:10 along with Koch Chemie Polstar 1:5. b) If it is moderately dirty, Koch Chemie Polstar at 1:5 will take care of everything. But I carry Koch Chemie greenstar at 1:20 or MZR at 1:10 in case I need some bite. c) If it is lightly dirty (this is what my car’s situation will be almost every time I go for a deep cleaning session), Koch Chemie Polstar at 1:10 does the job. d) If it is maintenance dusting, Polstar at 1:20 or ONR that I carry in the spray bottle will be more than enough. The process is pretty simple: If there are hard stains, I spray MZR or Polstar on that stain and onto the scrub pad/detailing brush/microfiber, depending on where the stain is, agitate on the stain, then wipe off with a dry microfiber cloth. If there are no stains, but the section is just dirty, I spray liberally on the panel, let it dwell for 15-20 seconds, then wipe with a dry microfiber cloth. During the maintenance, just dampen the microfiber and wipe the dust off. For stubborn dirt or stains, use MZR at 1:10 For normal dirt or stains, use Polstar at 1:5-10 For maintenance, use ONR at 1:250 or Polstar at 1:20. I start on the driver’s side, start from the dashboard and move my way down. Then go to the passenger side, and do the same from top to bottom on the front. Then do the screens and the gear console. Then step out and do the passenger side door, then the seat. Come back to the driver’s side and do the seat and the door. I leave the sill trims to the last as I don’t want to soil the microfibers yet. Then go to the second row, do the back of the front seats and the trims of the B pillars, and the back of the handrest console. Step out and do the doors and the seats on both sides. Again, leaving the sill trims for the last. Go to the trunk side, do the trunk door and the last row plastic trims, seats and the stuff. Then go around all the doors to complete the sill trims, including the bottom trims of the trunk. Then do the pedals with the greenstar and the detailing brush. Now take the microfiber that I used to wipe or agitate so far which is soaked in the product, go around the car and give a wipe to the rubber sealings. Now I take the floor mats out, vacuum the carpets, and wipe with microfiber that’s soaked in the product which I have used so far for cleaning. Carry the mats to the flat, and wash and dry them using Greenstar. This completes the interior detailing. You can dress the inside plastics if you want. But Polstar or ONR leaves a layer of UV protection. If you use Polstar or ONR for maintenance, that protection gets topped up till the next deep cleaning session.Takes me around 30-45 minutes to do all this. Here is the video of that process if you want to have a look at it.Video: Link Check out BHPian comments for more insights and information.
