The Korean automaker, Kia will launch 2 new SUVs and an all-new 1 premium MPV in the Indian market in 2024. Adding to it, the brand’s new compact SUV, internally codenamed AY, will make its global debut before the end of 2024. However, the production version of the Kia AY compact SUV will be introduced sometime in early 2025.
The Korean automaker will launch the Sonet facelift in the country in January 2024. Interested customers can book the new sub-4 meter SUV online or at authorised dealership by paying a token amount of Rs 20,000. The new model receive design changes and a feature-loaded cabin along with the advanced driver assistance system (ADAS). It comes with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, a 10.25-inch digital instrument console and Level 1 ADAS. It is offered with 3 engine options – a 1.2L NA petrol, a 1.0L turbo petrol and a 1.5L turbo diesel. Moreover, the diesel engine also comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox option.
Kia India will introduce its second Born-electric SUV, called the EV9 in the Indian market in the second quarter of 2024. The company had showcased the EV9 concept at the 2023 Auto Expo. It is equipped with a 77.4kWh battery pack; however, the global-spec model is also available with a 99.8kWh battery pack with a claimed range of up to 563km in a single charge. The SUV is offered with both RWD or AWD configurations with former gets a 203hp motor. The AWD EV9 comes with dual-motor setup rated at 192hp. It directly rivals the BMW iX, Mercedes-Benz EQC, Audi Q8 e-tron & the Jaguar I-Pace.
Kia had also showcased the fourth-generation Carnival MPV as the KA4 concept at the 2023 Auto Expo. The company has confirmed that the new Carnival will be launched in our market in 2024. The new model grows in size and is more premium & feature-loaded cabin. It is fitted with an advanced driver assistance system with features like adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking system, lane assist, and blind spot monitoring. The premium MPV is likely to be powered by a 2.2L turbo diesel engine that is good for 200bhp and 440Nm of torque. The transmission duties will be handled by an 8-speed ‘Sportsmatic’ automatic gearbox.
The Korean brand will launch the AY compact SUV in early 2025. It will be a high-riding vehicle and will be a sub-4 meter SUV. Rumoured to be called the Kia Keythe new SUV will be offered with ICE and EV powertrain options. Kia is also considering hybrid powertrains for the Indian market. Kia could add its hybrid tech to 1.2L & 1.5L NA petrol engines. It will be based on the internal combustion platform, which will also be modified for the EV version.
