In a heartwarming moment during the WPL 2024, star Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana was met with a resounding cheer from the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) crowd in Bengaluru during the toss, causing her to blush with delight.
After an entertaining season opener, it was time for Royal Challengers Bangalore Women to square off with UP Warriors in game 2 of the WPL 2024 season. Both sides witnessed an underwhelming season last year and thus will aim to kick off the new season campaign on a winning note.
Meanwhile, ahead of the official proceedings, RCB and UP Warriorz captains turned up for the toss. While the Warriorz won the toss and was elected to bowl first, home skipper Smriti Mandhana stole the show.
As she turned up for the post-toss interview, the Bengaluru crowd erupted into a loud cheer. The match presenter opined that the cheer was louder compared to the opening ceremony, where as many as six Bollywood superstars performedincluding megastar Shahrukh Khan.
Meanwhile, Smriti, who was witnessing such a surreal moment of this magnitude for the first time in her career, took a moment to soak in the applause.
As she waited for the crowd to settle down, Mandhana couldn’t control her excitement and blushed before asking the fans to calm down. The Indian star batter’s popularity amongst the cricket fans also added to the loud cheer.
Interestingly, Mandhana claimed that she knew about the Bangalore crowd’s passion for RCB beforehand. She apparently discussed the kind of reception they would receive in M. Chinnaswamy Stadium with her teammates prior to the game.
Notably, RCB women will step out in front of the home crowd for the first time in WPL history. Hopefully, RCB women can put up a good entertainer for the crowd and relinquish the trophy curse over the franchise.
