Bureau : Punjab and Haryana High Court has now given 25 directions not only to Punjab but also to Haryana and Chandigarh to crack down on the drugs racket of Punjab. The High Court said in its decision that it has come to light that in Punjab, 25 thousand 579 people have been arrested in drug trafficking cases in 20 months. 21 thousand 430 cases have been registered. 63,000 drug addicts are being treated in Outpatient Opioid Assisted Treatment (OOAT) clinics, while more than 3 lakh are being treated in government and private rehabilitation centres.
The High Court further said that these figures are worrying, hence the police should catch the ringleaders and charge them not only under the NDPS Act but also under the Money Laundering Act. There should be a minimum imprisonment of 10 years to 20 years and a fine of Rs 1 lakh. Should be installed.
The High Court also said that it is very important to investigate the nexus of smugglers and police officers in the drug trade worth thousands of crores of rupees in Punjab. The investigating agencies should put full emphasis on its investigation. The STF constituted by the Punjab Government against drug trafficking should be further reformed, modernized and strengthened. Special mobile anti-paddling squads should be formed for complete surveillance of their area.

The High Court said that this subject should be included in the curriculum of 10 1 and 10 2 to make children aware of the ill effects of drugs.
Policemen in uniform will be deployed outside all schools, colleges and educational institutions from 8 am to 6 pm to catch drug smugglers who lure students into the trap of drugs. Anti-drug clubs should be formed in all schools, colleges and educational institutions.
The local intelligence unit should keep an eye on all such shops, dhabas, tikki shops, tea shops etc. from where drug smugglers operate and arrest them.
Police officers will ensure that medicines, intoxicants and intoxicants are not given to minors in any medical shop, bar, restaurant. If any seller is found doing this, he should be given notice and his license should be canceled immediately.
Licenses issued by bars/vendors supplying/selling liquor to minors should be cancelled.
In areas which are more sensitive, surveillance should be increased in all schools, colleges and educational institutions and zero tolerance policy against drugs should be adopted here.
Senior most teachers should be made nodal officers in all educational institutions and children should be made aware about the ill effects of drug abuse every Friday. If a child is found trapped in the quagmire of drugs, his parents should be immediately informed and the parents should also be made aware.
