Engine used to randomly die while in slow moving / crawling traffic. Sometimes the engine died even during cold starts in the morning.
BHPian srvm recently shared this with other enthusiasts.
My 2016 Zest XMS petrol crossed 80,000 kms last Sunday while crossing Palar bridge near Ranipet (on Chennai-Bengaluru highway).
In the last year, it gave quite a bit of trouble – it was in Service center for nearly 2 months (Jan-March 2024). Engine used to randomly die while in slow moving / crawling traffic. Sometimes engine died even during cold starts in the morning. No MIL or warning lights in the instrument cluster made it very difficult to diagnose.
Fuel pump was changed for the 3rd time, Spark plugs, HT cables, Ignition coil, Oxygen Lambada sensor were also replaced. Problem still persisted. Finally, engine wiring harness was replaced and the issues seems to have gone. Total cost was more than Rs.40,000.
I had also replaced clutch kit & one rear wheel bearing at 75,000 km.
Suspension, engine mounts, other wheel bearings, brake disc etc are all stock as of now.
Given the prices of new cars, I cannot afford to replace Zest with a new one. Hence, I plan to keep it for as long as it remains reasonable on my pocket.
Even after all the troubles it gave me last year (quite a long story, hopefully I can pen it down in a long-term ownership review), we as a family are happy while travelling around in it.
Hopefully, next year will be a problem-free ownership.
