TVS iQube is one of the best selling electric scooter on sale in India – With about 3 lakh units sold till date
iQube is among the most popular and widely accepted family electric scooter in India. The company has been proactively refreshing the iQube lineup to incorporate more options, features and range for buyers. Recently, a recent viral video on social media with almost 32 million views showed a potential flaw in iQube’s chassis and TVS has issued a recall regarding the same.
TVS iQube Recalled – What’s the fuss about?
A TVS iQube owner, Mohit Badaya, took to social media revealing that his scooter’s chassis had been damaged despite the scooter was subjected to an accident or crash of any sort. The video went viral on social media platforms and many iQube owners responded by relating to it and claiming something similar on their vehicle too.
Mohit Badaya further claimed that there were 5 other TVS iQube with the same chassis issue at the service station where he took his scooter. Suspecting a widespread fault and recurring issue, Mr Badaya requested a replacement for a brand new scooter, instead of a repair. According to him, TVS representatives tried to convince him to accept the repair.
He claimed that TVS had promised a replacement, but went ahead with a repair, which was not what was discussed on a telephone call with representatives from TVS. The scooter in question has been repaired and Mr Badaya has been notified to collect his vehicle despite him never agreeing to a repair, as per claims.
Official recall initiated
After this, TVS Motor has issued a voluntary recall for its popular iQube electric scooter. The company is recalling iQube electric scooters manufactured between July 10, 2023 and September 9, 2023. In this recall, TVS will conduct thorough inspections on iQube electric scooters and verify the soundness of chassis bridge tube.
This is to ensure the soccer’s ride and handling are as per specifications over extended usage. TVS has not revealed the sample size of this recall. However, speculations suggest a rough ballpark figure of close to 45,000 units, considering the volumes pushed between July 10th, 2023 and September 9th, 2023.
Respective TVS dealerships will individually contact affected TVS iQube electric scooter owners and initiate the recall process. Affected scooters will be thoroughly tested for chassis damages and potential damages. Necessary actions including repairs or replacement will be conducted on these scooters at no cost to customers.
