Hyundai is working on a twin-cylinder CNG setup similar to Tata’s iCNG range of cars. According to the latest trademark filing, it will be branded as ‘Hy-CNG Duo’. Currently, Hyundai offers a factory-fitted CNG kit with the Grand i10 NIOS, Aura and Exter. However, a major drawback is that the CNG tank takes up most of the luggage space in the boot. Tata Motors solved this with its twin-cylinder tech, which features two smaller cylinders positioned under the boot floor. Hyundai could adopt a similar approach with its Hy-CNG Duo variants. Hyundai has also trademarked the term ‘Hy-CNG’, which could be used for its CNG range in the future. Both trademarks were filed recently and their status reads, “Formalities Chk Pass”. Hyundai is expected to offer its twin-cylinder tech in the i20 and Venue. While the i20 CNG will take on the Maruti Baleno and Tata Altroz, the Venue will compete with the CNG variants of the Brezza and Nexon.
