The Uttar Pradesh government has clarified that the benefits under the state scheme would only apply to vehicles that are certified under the central government’s Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME II) program. Earlier this month, the state government of Uttar Pradesh announced that it would waive registration charges on hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Some carmakers raised objections to this move, stating that the policies were not aligned with those of the Centre and would create confusion. As per reports, the state transport authority has now issued a letter to the manufacturers stating that the benefits under the scheme would apply to vehicles certified under FAME II. The government is also likely to specify a price cap and incentivise only a certain category of strong hybrids. The government, through the letter, also invited automakers for further discussions. Reports suggest that the first round of discussions was held on July 11, during which the carmakers submitted their recommendations. Source:ET Auto
